ROCKET NOT-IT - NOT YET ANYWAY!!
It was only a dummy along for the ride (picture), so he
wouldn't have any views on the matter - but rocket fans in
Denmark must be disappointed. Their first attempt to fly their
machine, the 'Tyco Brahe', failed. A puff of smoke, but
definitely no lift-off! The idea of the rocket is to create a
really low-cost system, which could take one passenger up into
space for the (short) journey of a lifetime. Now the Kristian
'Copenhagen Suborbitals Group' will have to try again, and hope
they can get their bird to fly by the middle of the month.
After that the military test area they've been allowed to use
will be out of bounds till next year. But, whatever, they’re not
going to put anyone in their Heat-1X orbiter till they're
totally sure it's OK.
"That may take more than three years; it may take less than 10
years - it's difficult to say because we're not trying to kill
ourselves here" says the group's Kristian von Bengtson. "We're
just having fun. We'll do it when we're ready to do it." When
it does happen the rocket will rise to 100 kilometres above the
earth before splashing down in the Baltic Sea. It won't be a
de-luxe trip - the passengers will have to half-sit and half-stand in a space not much wider than their shoulders. But they
will get a great view of the earth.

Don't think I'd fancy that much!!
