They'll be as long as three football pitches and carry 40 aircraft - and cost THREE BILLION pounds! Britain's biggest-ever aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, will enable the navy to protect the United Kingdom and our friends all round the world. And making the ships will provide lots of jobs in the shipbuilding industry, especially in Portsmouth and the North-East. Some parts of the two giant ships will be made in Newcastle and then taken to Rosyth in Scotland for more construction work.
