“Hammersmith & Fulham police have invested £20,000 from their
Basic Command Unit (BCU) fund in a joint education and police initiative, supported by the
local Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, which will provide funding
for every child in the borough at Key Stage 2 to receive the Missdorothy.com
programme.
The programme aims to start early with young people, many of whom have
serious fears about experiencing violence in some form by the time they
start secondary education. The teaching resources in the Missdorothy
programme provides children with positive views about self-esteem, personal
safety, and enhances their assertiveness skills to enable them to say
“no” with confidence in potentially dangerous situations, whether they
be in the home, at school or on the street.
Hammersmith and Fulham Police regard this intervention as a long-term
investment to reduce crime. The programme will help to change the views
of potential offenders, while reducing the impact on victims, enabling
children to be more prepared to act appropriately."
