Sorry about being so late yesterday everyone - just forgot! Thanks Mum for doing Diary... I agree with Rev Nigel too and that 'Pieta' is so beautiful, imagine carving all those shapes of clothing like that out of marble!! What happened if you made a mistake aarrgghh!
Forgot Diary 'cos I was searching for more homework facts about those really early planes.
They were really dangerous 'cos they were made our of wood and cloth! They used to stretch the cloth over the wooden frames to make the wings and the body of the plane (the bit called the 'fuselage') and then paint some thing called ' dope' on to make it tight and strong. But that meant the planes could catch fire 'cos that stuff burnt very easily... and there was all the fuel in the tanks and the oil in the engines, which got really hoy as well. And NO parachutes!!
You had to REALLY want to fly then!
