Thursday 21st January
Did ‘Habitats’ in Science today… where animals live and “invertebrates”, that’s mini-beasts who don’t have a backbone like we do. Some like beetles have a hard outside called an “exoskeleton” instead (sounds like something to wear at Hallowe’en!!)
We went to the Limpney Stream at Carborne Country Park, there’s a Park Ranger there called Billy Shaughnessy who knows all about where the creatures live. He showed us how they hide from “predators”, other animals who want to eat them and told us how fish wait for little flies to be on the surface and then come up and GULP! Eat them!
Ricky tripped up and nearly fell in but luckily Mrs Redman caught him just in time but then his welly came off and he put his foot in the mud, yukk! Had to take his sock off ‘cos it was so wet.
Billy showed us a mini-beast called a ‘Water Boatman’ that can walk on top of the water. Cool!
