Chapter 11 - Truly strange...

Oh DEAR!

Dot had already opened the book, even though Wiz in his doggy way had known something bad was going to happen, just like before.

And it did! As Dot looked at the page in front of her, all the pictures and words on it just slid off! It was like when you're washing a plate under the hot tap, and whatever's left on the plate, gravy or sauce or little bits of food, just runs away into the washing-up bowl.

That was what was happening to everything that was in the book!

"Oh NO!" said Dot. "What's going on?"

In a panic, she turned the page. The same thing happened - much too fast for her to read even a tiny bit of what had been on it.

Another page. The same thing.

Wizzie whined and flopped down on the sandy path. "I told you not to!" he whined, covering his eyes with his paws.

Really scared now, Dot turned back, hoping that the words and pictures would have come back onto the page she first looked at.

Nothing. A blank.

What had she done?!

"Looks like a kinda dull book to me!" said perky little voice.

Wizzie groaned. Trust Mr Mouse to start making silly comments now!

"I didn't do anything!" said Dot. "I just wanted to have a look, that's all!" She felt terrible though.

But what in the name of the Net had happened to the book? She decided she'd better put it back, and hope it would be all right.

But it wouldn't go back. The space where it had been was closed. There was no room for it. It was as if all the books where it had been had kind of shuffled together, like people do to make room on a crowded train so someone else can get in.

"Foodles!" said Dot. She was getting cross now. What was going on?

She put it down on the ground.

But just as she did so, as close as she could to the branch where she'd found it, something caught her eye in the depths of the forest.

A flash of white... moving fast, as if it was someone running away in a game of hide and seek.

Wizzie saw it too. "Look Dot!" he said excitedly, his tail wagging like mad. "It's those children again! Can I chase? They might be able to tell us what this mountain is - where we are now!"

"Oh yeah, great idea" said Mr Mouse. "You go and get lost, and then we have to find you in this jungle!"

"Oh do shut UP, mousebrain" said Wiz angrily. "I wouldn't get lost - I can track back to you guys by smell alone! Dogs can do that, you know!"

"You saying I need a bath?" said Mr Mouse. "Look who's talking!"

"Now STOP it you two!" said Dot. It looked like her two friends were heading for one of their mega arguments. "What I want to know is - "

But she never managed to say what she wanted to know, because suddenly a strange voice spoke. Loud and clear and quite close to where the three friends were standing on the forest path.

"It's happened again!" the voice said. "Just like we said it would - or I'm not a Zildith!"
