MR MOUSE - SUPERSTAR...?

Chapter 3 - Talking talent

"You were talkin' about family, Dot? Well, family, that's the story here!"

Mr Mouse had decided to tell Dot and Wizard why the esure.com insurance commercial on TV had made him so upset - and they could tell it was going to be a long story, because their friend had settled back in his fave place: back against the bottom of the laptop keyboard, paws behind his head.

He was going to tell it like it was!

"See, it's all about my cousin - Cousin Esure, that's him you just saw on the TV having a car crash - and how he got to be the star of the show. And not me!"

Dot was REALLY puzzled now. So was Wizard. He lay down on the rug next to Dot's laptop table and let out a big, big sigh. With his floppy flat ears out either side of his head, he looked a bit like he WAS the rug! He gazed up at Mr Mouse and sighed again.

"But what's Cousin... Cousin Esure got to do with you not being a star?" he said, blinking his big brown eyes. "I don't get it!"

"COURSE ya don't" said Mr Mouse, jumping up from his comfy place and hopping across the laptop keyboard, then hitting Rtn (he always hits just the keys he needs. Not like me!)

"But maybe, now you will!"

The screen lit up and played a little tune - Tan tan tan tan tan TA - RAAAAA! - kind of a trumpet fanfare. Then a sign like an old-fashioned poster for the theatre came up. It read:

Mr Mouse chuckled and shook his head. "Nibbly-nibbly teeth! I ask you! Still, it did the trick! Hundreds of us turned up!"

Dot was starting to get it. "So... there were these auditions to act in the esure.com TV adverts and you went in for them?"

"Getting sharper by the minute, kiddo!" replied Mr Mouse sassily. (He's so ANNOYING sometimes! Grrr!) "Mind you, we all hadda be virtual mice - and gerbils and stuff - the auditions were virtual, like on-line... must have been the biggest gathering of rodent net-voyagers in cyberspace ever!"

"Sounds like fun!" said Wiz. Then he sat up. "Hey - was it like the X-Factor? Cool!"

Dot was surprised to see Mr Mouse go pale (yes, cyber-space mice really can do that!), as if he was suddenly remembering something. He sat down with a bump on the edge of the laptop, and mopped his face with his hanky (no not the one he blew his nose on, thank you so much - this one had red and white stripes.)

"Oh yeah" he said, shaking his head so his whiskers waved about.

"Too much like it! Oh BOY!!"
