Think your typing mistakes are all your fault?

Think again!

"King Henry the Eighth" typed Dot, working at her dad's laptop computer in her bedroom, "was a very strong King who had six wives."

Only, she didn't. What came up on the screen was:

"Kong Henry the Eggth was a very strong Kung who had six waves."

Dot peered at the screen, hitching up her glasses on her freckled nose. "Oh FOODLES!" she shouted. "That's the third time I've tried to get this right. I'll never get this history homework done if I don't get on with it!"

Wizard, Dot's King Charles spaniel and her best friend, padded over to the work table and put his paws up on the side of her chair. He peered at the laptop screen. "What's a Kung?" he asked innocently. Dot turned a cross face towards him. "It's meant to be King" she said. "I typed... "

Then she saw how Wiz was gazing at her with his head on one side and his big spaniel eyes full of laughter. "Oh YOU!" she said, giving him a push. Wizzie rolled onto his back and waved his legs in the air, making gruffly little dog laughing noises. "Can't wait to see Kung Kong on the TV tonight" he laughed. "I wonder how many waves he had!"

Dot huffed as she re-typed the sentence. "It's all very well for you" she said. "You haven't got a history teacher just ready to give you de-merits for bad work... I have!"

"Well" said Wizard, still chuckling "It's all down to the Grimbles Dot. Nothing you can do but put up with them."

"Grimbles?" said Dot, looking puzzled.

"Yeah Grimbles kid" came a familiar Canadian drawl. Mr Mouse was on the case, full of can-do and know-how. He marched round the side of the laptop and stood there with his paws on his hips. "Biggest nuisance on the Net. In fact, on computers anywhere if you ask me!"

"So... what are Grimbles then?" asked Dot, still confused.

"Well kid it's this way. Know how you type something on a computer - and you're sure as sure what you mean to say? Then you look and see what's on the screen and it's like no way what you wrote? All spelt wrong? Well they say it's the Grimbles that make you do that. Remember how we got to have our Eden Project adventure, because I typed a word wrong? That was those guys... "

Mr Mosue...sorry, Mouse...lay back and made himself comfortable, stretched out in his favourite position with his hands behind his head, resting just so against the side of Dot's keyboard. "See? That guy writing this story just typed my name 'Mr. Mosue'...he does it all the time! 'Course, just like everyone else he blames himself for making a mistake...but I reckon there's something in what they say - there are Grimbles out there who reckon it's just good fun to trip you up!"

Wizard gave a little snort. "But they're not real" he said. "It's just a story people make up to excuse themselves making mistakes. I mean has anyone ever seen a Grimble?"

"Nope!" said Mr Mouse with a grin. "But they're there all right!"

"Oh yeah?" said Wiz. "Prove it! In fact - if you can - I'll get Dot's Mum to buy some of that Roquefort cheese Dot and I saw at Delicious Deli yesterday!"

Mr Mouse leapt up. "Ya mean it?" he said excitedly. "Well let's go!"

"What about my homework?" wailed Dot.

"Never mind that!" answered Mr Mouse. "This'll really help you get it done! Let's go!"

The three friends lined up ready for the start. "Wait a minute" said Dot, before they zoomed onto the Super Highway of the Internet again. "Where do we start?"

Mr Mouse grinned. "Easy!" he said. "We're going to see someone real special!" He clicked on his computer mouse backpack - and highlit a box at the top of the screen with a tick and the letters 'ABC' in it.

With a whoosh and a zoom - they were off!
