INTERNET VOYAGER! |

Next day, Dot woke up after her Internet
adventure full of excitement. She couldn't believe the wonderful secret world
she’d discovered - and her dad Bill couldn't believe what she’d done for him
when he had the time to take a good look at his new web page. He was absolutely amazed at his
e-mail address too - he had no idea his daughter was so clever. But then,
he didn't know she had the help of the coolest team in cyber space either! By the end of the week Bill was
even more amazed because Doggydo’s was hardly able to cope with all the orders
for dog and pet food he was receiving via the Internet. Dot was helping him
answer his e-mails every night from customers all over the country and they
were even starting to get enquiries from Samson the Server had kept his
word and he was now making sure Doggydo’s was available to everyone on the
world wide web! Bill’s boss Mr Elms said this
was “e-commerce” (that’s doing business on the Internet to you and me!) at
its very best and on Friday he called Bill in to see him just before home
time. Bill went in to his boss’ office,
quite sure he was going to get a raise. “More money” he thought “That would
be nice… maybe I could get Suzie her new kitchen at last… or a new car… ” Mr Elms beamed at him. “Come in,
come in” he said. “My nephew – he knows all about these computer things -
says you’ve done a marvellous job Bill. Can hardly believe
you had it in you!” He took Bill’s hand and shook it up and down, patting
him on the back with a thump. (“Ouch!” thought Bill.) “But I always knew you did really.
In fact - you’ve done so well I’m going to put you in charge of this company’s
biggest event!” Bill felt himself going pale. He knew what was coming next! “This year” Mr Elms went on, still
beaming away “we’re sponsoring the Munchenmeat Dog Awards and I want you to
take care of the whole event on the Internet!” Mr Elms slapped him on the
back again, even harder this time. (“OWWW!” thought Bill.) “What do you make
of that old boy? Something for you to get your teeth into,
eh? Heh heh! But we know you can do it. Must dash
now. See you Monday!” Bill tried to smile but his face
was frozen. How was he going to manage? What on earth had Dot got him
into! ********************************* |
