INTERNET VOYAGER! |

Dot was having the best time she
had ever had in her life. Thanks to the Internet, she was sitting in Texas
with the coolest boy she’d ever seen. Floyd knew all about computers too,
and loved surfing the net, so there was plenty for them to talk about! In fact Dot was having such a
nice time that she’d got half way through her giant burger (which was DERLicious!)
before she felt a wet nose on her leg and realised she’d forgotten to give
some to Wizard and Mister Mouse. She could see Floyd really liked
Wizard. With a smile, he helped Dot slip a big chunk of burger and chips on
a napkin under the seat so he and Mister Mouse could eat too. They had to
be very careful because dogs weren’t really supposed to be in the restaurant.
And mice certainly weren’t allowed, so they made sure that Floyd’s
mum didn’t see them! It was all just PER-FECT, Dot
thought - she’d never had so much fun. The only tricky bit was when Floyd
asked for her address. “Oh um, it’s 97 Barking Avenue” she said brightly, before she could stop herself. She’d never thought
it sounded silly before, but now… she went all red. But it was worse even
than that! Floyd laughed out loud. “No c’mon
Dot - your e-mail address!” Dot was double embarrassed – she felt as
if she wanted the floor to open up and let her disappear! But she told herself
the way things were happening to her at the moment, she’d better not think
like that just in case it did! She took a BIG drink from her
Coke to cover up her red face and coughed and gasped as some of it went down
the wrong way. Typical when you’re trying to impress someone, she thought
furiously! “It’s dot@missdorothy.com” she
spluttered. “Hey that’s real neat - you’re
Dot Com in person and on the Net. MEGA-cool!” Dot - who’d never really liked
her name much - suddenly loved it! But then Wiz spoilt the moment by nudging
her in the back of the leg. Her heart sank. She knew it was time to go home
- she SO didn’t want to! Still, she knew she had Floyd’s
e-mails to look forward to - and they had so much in common. Both their grandmothers
had been to California, for a start. Dot had never been there, but Floyd had told her all
about it – sounded like it was TOTALLY wicked! Another wet-nose-nudge
from Wizard.
Dot sighed. “I’m really sorry Floyd”
she said sadly. “But… we’ve got to go… ” “No problemo!” said Floyd “Ma
needs me in the kitchen anyway.” He flipped his baseball cap onto the back
of his head. “Hey I tell you what - have the burger on us! She’d like that
– ‘n so would I.” He got up and gave her his big slow grin. Her heart went
bumpety-bump again! Dot went red again - she hadn’t
even thought about how to pay. “Well that’s terribly kind of you,” she said. “Hey forget it - but DON’T forget
to e-mail me. Soon ‘s you get back, OK?” he called as the swing door to the
kitchen closed behind him - where Dot could hear more yelling from his mum.
As if she’d ever forget
to e-mail a boy like Floyd! NO WAY!! ********************************* |
