Floyd – it was a funny kind of name, but then she was in Texas, USA! It kind of felt like anything could happen.

As the echoes of the waitress’ big yell died away – with no-one paying the least little bit of notice in the happy noise of the restaurant – the kitchen door opened slightly.

A teenage boy poked his head round into the restaurant. “Yeah mom?” he said shyly.

Dot's mouth nearly fell open. She’d been expecting… well a bit of a dork if she was honest with herself. The name Floyd seemed really uncool, but when Dot saw him she thought straight away of what Nanny Com was always saying:  never judge a book by its cover, or someone by their name!

She didn't think she’d never forget the moment she Floyd. The only way to describe him was "yummy"! He had floppy blonde hair which fell over his eyes so he had to keep flipping it back. His eyes were deep deep blue and as he emerged from the door she could see he was tanned and very fit!

“This is Floyd, honey” the waitress said with a smile, putting her arm round the boy and giving him a huge hug. “He’s my son and he wants to go to London England one day. Been hoping to find a friend over there to write to – and here y’are!”

Dot’s heart turned over. She’d just love to be Floyd’s friend.

“Hi,” he said shyly. “You really from England?”

“Oh yes” said Dot “and… and I’d love to write to you. Be your penfriend – that’s what we say in England.”

“Cool!” said Floyd. “That’d be really cool!”

Dot heard a little snort from under the table – Mr Mouse was giggling to himself, while Wizzie looked up at her anxiously. She gave him a pat to make him feel better – she remembered, he always got worried when she made new friends. But Floyd was so amazing!

“Look why don’t you two get to know each other while I grab that burger for you?” said Floyd’s mum, bustling off back to the kitchen. "Mmmm… lovely… " said Dot dreamily. This net-voyaging was even better than she could ever have dreamed!
