Chapter 14 - Goodbye to Eden - for now!
"Mmmm!" said Mr Mouse - talking with his mouth full, NAUGHTY boy! "This is so cool! Any chance of a doggy bag to take some of this ace stuff home?"
Evie Eden had found what Mr Mouse had been looking for in the first place - till his typing mistake had taken the Dot crew to the Eden project and their strangest adventure yet. Edam (not Ed-en!) cheese! It had been in a fridge in Tim Smit's office. "He won't mind" said Evie. "He always says it's the one that gets left behind at parties!"
Dot didn't like Edam either but it didn't matter - she was too busy to be hungry, thinking about what their leaf creature friend had said about plants and humans. She felt that she'd never forget those words - or the beautiful music she'd just heard in the Biome.
Perhaps that was what the leaf people had been trying to do - just like the Eden Project itself: make sure that people never forget, not for one moment, the wonders of the lives of plants - and the way that their world and the human world had to work together. Because if we didn't... she closed her eyes at the thought of what might happen.
"Mmmm!" went Mr Mouse. "Yummerama! Got any more Evie?"
That brought Dot back down to earth with a bump. It really was time to be getting home to Barking Avenue! Although the magic of cyber-travel in the Net meant no real time had passed in her home world while they'd all been away - less than a millionth of a second in fact - she just wanted to get back home again.
She promised herself she'd get her Mum and Dad to take her on a visit to Eden though - she could always say she'd found out all about it on the Internet. Which, she realized with a start, she really had!
Wizzie knew it was home time too. "Come on Mouse!" he said. "You'd better leave some of that cheese, just in case!" He leapt up and stood by the laptop screen.
With a sigh, Mr Mouse climbed up next to him - tucking a last chunk of Edam in his backpack. "I was just gettin' into that... " he grumbled.
Evie hopped up beside them. She put her little head on one side. "Do you really have to go Dot?" she asked, with a sigh.
"Yes Evie, we really do" Dot said sadly. She reached out her finger and gently stroked the little creature's tummy.
Evie giggled. "Oh all right then - long as you promise to come back!" she said. "But you'll never really be away if you remember what I just said. Anyway, you can always visit us on the Internet...just type in www.edenproject.com"
The three friends stood by the screen, ready to go. They took one last look at the brilliant green world of Eden, and Evie standing smiling up at them. Then with a whoosh they were in the computer and back on the Net.
"Hey WAIT!" shouted Mr Mouse as Evie faded away behind them "I forgot to ask - WHAT DOES DIDDLEYPICK MEAN?"
Evie laughed. "I'll tell you when you come back to Eden!" she shouted. "Make it soon!"
And then she was gone as Dot, Wizard and Mr Mouse gathered speed - zooming off down the Super Highway, ready for another adventure in the magic cyber-world of the Internet!
